In these uncertain times, federal and state governments continue their focus on combating
fraud, waste, and abuse in health care and other federal programs in an effort to reduce
federal expenditures. This presentation provides an important refresher on the provisions of the Stark law and the anti-kickback statute, the substantial penalties associated with
violations of these prohibitions, and a summary of exceptions of particular applicability.
The refresher will be followed by a discussion of the impact of the fraud and abuse laws on the long-term care industry in certain focus areas.
